IH KW TEST RIG: ADVANCING REDOX FLOW BATTERY INNOVATION

Stack testing is one of the most crucial steps in developing efficient Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) systems. It serves as the bridge between laboratory-scale cell testing—where small experiments are conducted—and large commercial systems that require fully optimized equipment capable of storing and delivering multi-kW and multi-kWh energy.

To support this development, our R&D team has designed an efficient and versatile test rig that allows precise control over multiple key performance parameters: temperature, pump frequency, flow rate, pressure, current density, power density, voltage, SOC, SOH, and more. The ability to monitor and manage such a broad range of variables enables us to better understand how they interact and influence overall battery performance.

The new IH kW Test Rig enables the testing of stacks up to 20 kW with capacities ranging from 5 to 8 kWh. These short test cycles make it possible to assess component aging, evaluate long-term cyclability, and vary operational parameters throughout cycling within a reasonable timeframe.

This test setup will play a key role in optimizing pumps, heat exchangers, non-constant flow operation, and new electrolyte formulations—ultimately ensuring the development of enhanced and highly efficient IH product generations.
