INTERNATIONAL FLOW BATTERY FORUM 

From June 25th to 27th, 2024, the International Flow Battery Forum took place at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow, marking one of the most significant events for the redox flow battery (RFB) community. InoHub proudly participated in the forum, with several members of our R&D team and management in attendance, underlining our commitment to innovation and industry collaboration. 

The event provided a fantastic platform for networking, where battery component producers, startup scientists with new technologies, and seasoned industry professionals exchanged valuable insights and perspectives. Key topics discussed included: 

  • Domestic Redox Flow Batteries in the DACH Region
  • Recent Progress: Updates from leading companies such as Cellcube, Sumitomo, Rongke Power, and Volterion. 
  • Supply Chain Enhancements: Strategies and discussions on improving supply chain efficiency. 
  • European Regulations: Insights into regulatory aspects concerning RFBs. 
  • Vanadium RFB: Addressing electrolyte balancing, preventing capacity decay, ensuring temperature stability, employing fiber electrodes, and methods to boost energy density. 
  • Other Inorganic RFBs: Presentations on kW-scale lead RFB, Fe/Pb RFB, flow batteries with Zn electrodes, Zn/Mn RFB, Fe/Cr complex RFB, and hybrid RFB solutions. 
  • Organic Electrolytes: Performance updates from Jena Flow Batteries, Quino Energy, and CMBlu Energy, along with innovative synthetic methods for preparing organic electrolytes. 
  • Testing & Manufacturing: Discussions on the reliability of RFB testing, the use of non-fluorinated membranes, evaluation of battery components, and cost engineering for large-scale production. 

Beyond the engaging scientific and techno-economic discussions, the forum was an excellent opportunity to connect with new battery component suppliers offering diverse alternatives for battery design. This event clearly highlighted the extensive range of RFB components and technologies available, paving the way for future innovations in the industry.
