TEST RIG FOR PRESSURE DROP MEASUREMENTS

Providing sufficient flow to the electrodes is crucial for the functioning of a flow battery. Hence, the pressure drop is a core factor when designing a RFB. For measuring the pressure drop of the different versions of our prototypes, that are continuously improved, we have designed and built up a special test bench. This test bench is kept as simple as possible while containing everything necessary for conducting precise pressure drop tests. It consists of a hydraulic circuit including tanks, pumps, vents, hoses and connectors for the stack plus sensors for measuring pressure, flow and temperature. The flow of the pump can be regulated in a wide range. With this test bench we can evaluate both the pressure drop of our frames in a single cell and the pressure drop of a full-size stack. This gives us the flexibility to make quick hydraulic tests with minimal material input as well as conducting hydraulic stack tests without occupying a fully equipped battery-test rig.
